Tips for Sweet and Sour Mushroom:
- Avoid washing the mushrooms with water, otherwise, they’ll absorb too much moisture, which can dilute their flavor when cooking.

Sweet and Sour Mushroom Ingredients
- 1 pound cremini or button mushrooms
- 5 cloves garlic, minced
- Green onion and sesame seeds to garnish
SWEET & SOUR SAUCE
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1.5 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1.5 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 tbsp sugar
- A pinch of black pepper
- 100 ml cold water
- 1 tbsp cornstarch, optional
How to make:
- Cleaning the mushroom – Use a dry brush or paper towel to clean the mushroom. Don’t wash it with water as mushrooms can absorb excess moisture which can dilute their flavor when cooking.
- Preheat the non-stick pan – Heat the non-stick pan over medium-high heat.
- Sauté the mushrooms in the pan – don’t stir them for about 2 minutes until they start to release their natural water content.
- Add the oil and garlic and stir-fry with the mushrooms for 1 minute.
- Add the sweet and sour sauce, stir for 1 minute, cover the pan and sauté over a medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes.
- Remove to a plate and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.
- Ready to serve hot over steamed rice.
