Beef and Broccoli Stir Fry

Beef and broccoli is a classic Chinese-American dish. This restaurant-style beef and broccoli recipe is easy and quick to make at home. You can have this dish on the table in about 20 minutes.

Ingredients

BEEF MARINADE:

  • 0.67 lb /300g flank steak , sliced 1/4 inch thick
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dark soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 4 teaspoons rice wine , Shaoxing wine or dry sherry
  • 4 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons oil

FOR THE SAUCE:

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon oyster sauce
  • 3 teaspoons dark soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon soy sauce

STIR FRY:

  • 4 cups /300g broccoli florets
  • 5 gloves garlic , minced

Instructions

  • Cut the beef - To make the flank steak more tender, always cut against the grain direction.
    You can refer to my other post, "How To Velvet Beef For Stir Fry?" I'll show you how to cut the beef and tenderize it.
    PRO TIP: Cut the beef against the direction of the grain so that the tissue can be separated and the bite is easier to make.
  • Marinade beef - You add soy sauce, baking soda powder, rice wine, and cornstarch, stir, and marinate with your hands to give more flavor to the beef.
  • Second, add oil and mix them well.
  • Cut the broccoli into small pieces, then wash, drain, and set aside.
  • Chop the garlic and set aside.
  • Preheat the oil over medium-high heat, add half portion of the chopped garlic then add broccoli.
  • Stir fry broccoli to coat with garlic and oil for 1 minute, add water then cover the pot for 1 to 2 minutes.
  • Stir-fry for another 1 minute or until the water has evaporated, remove them to a plate.
  • Preheat the oil over medium-high heat, add the beef to the pan and spread them over the pan.
  • Make sure the beef does not overlap so that you can fry them well, not steam. turn it when the bottom is golden brown.
  • Add the rest of chopped garlic and stir fry for 1 minute.
  • Add broccoli and a half cup of water, add oyster sauce, dark soy sauce, soy sauce, and add sesame oil to give additional flavor toss them well.
