Real and Fresh Taro Milk Tea Boba.

Taro Milk Tea Boba is a taro-based drink with chewy tapioca balls, & milk. This simple and easy taro milk tea recipe that everyone can make at home just like a bubble tea house.

Ingredients

TARO MILK TEA:

  • 300 g Taro ,cut into 1.5” chunks
  • 300 ml Water
  • 100 g Sugar
  • 300 ml milk

TAPIOCA PEARLS: (To learn how to make tapioca pearls, see Black Pearl Bubble Tea.)

  • 500 ml water
  • 200 g tapioca pearls

Instructions

  • Put taro, sugar, and water in a pot and bring it to boil. It's enough if the water just covers the taro. You need to stir until the sugar is dissolved. (Noted 1)
  • Let it boil for 20 ~30 minutes. Take the pot off the stove, cover it and steam it for another 20 minutes. (Noted 2)
  • Before you put the taro in a bowl, make sure the taro is fully cooked. You can use chopsticks to insert the taro if you can easily cross and pass it, which means the taro is cooked.
  • Transfer the taro to a bowl and let it cool.
  • Put the taro and milk in the blender and blend 2-3 times on high speed. Because we want the texture and graininess of the taro. So you only press the blender 2-3 times on high to keep the taro grainy. If you beat it too long, it'll be completely mixed with the milk!

  • Divide it among 3 large glasses. Add ice if you like, then add tapioca pearls or honey or simple sugar syrup if you want more sweetness depending on your taste.
  • If you've leftovers or make more, you can freeze them and use them later. This way you can drink taro milk tea whenever you want. Remember, however, that tapioca pearls shouldn't be stored in the refrigerator. They taste best 2-4 hours after cooking.

FOR INSTANT POT TO COOK TARO:

  • The most important step is to cut the peeled taro into small cubes smaller than the size of a thick straw to drink the pearl milk tea.
  • Put the small pieces of taro into the inner pot of the instant pot, add 100g of sugar, add water to cover all the taro (don't use too much water just to cover it).
  • Manually select Pressure Cook, high pressure and set it for 25 minutes. (Do not manually switch to vent).
  • Next, get a big pot of taro mash + chunks! Since the previous cut is small enough. Most of it is cooked into taro mash in the pressure cooker and saute mode, while small chunks remain. It is the perfect raw material for taro milk tea without stirring as it is small lumps.
  • Divide it into 4 large glasses. Add ice if desired, then add black tea to each glass. Add more simple syrup or tea, depending on your taste.

Tips & Notes:

  1. If you want less carbs, you don't need to add sugar. This is because taro itself is a little sweet. If you cook taro with sugar, it'll get a sweet taste that will make it even more delicious.
  2. Steam for another 20 minutes. This will ensure that the taro is fully cooked and soft.
