How To Cook Hunan Shrimp?

Spicy Hunan shrimp is so simple to make in under 20 minutes. Juicy shrimp stir fry is coated in an amazing sweet and spicy Hunan sauce. It is low carb and perfect for a quick and easy dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound shrimp, (450g, size 50/60, peeled and de-veined)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 thin slices fresh ginger, minced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cups broccoli, (150g)
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1/2 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 scallions, cut into 2 inch pieces

Marinade Shrimp:

  • 1 teaspoon oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon cornstarch

Hunan Sauce:

  • 1/2 teaspoon Chinese black vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons Toban Djan (Chili Bean Sauce)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Shaoxing wine
  • 1/2 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1/3 cup water

Aromatics:

  • sesame seeds

Instructions

  • Marinade shrimp- Mix shrimp with 1 teaspoon oil and ½ teaspoon cornstarch until shrimp are evenly coated. Set aside.
  • Mixed Hunan Sauce- In a small bowl, whisk together all ingredients, and then set aside.
  • Heat sesame oil in a large non-stick skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  • Sauté the aromatics- add minced ginger and garlic and saute for about 20 seconds.
  • Add broccoli- then cover the pan and simmer, for about 2 minutes.
  • Add red bell pepper and mushrooms- continue to saute for 1 minute.
  • Add Hunan sauce, scallions and shrimp- simmer for another 2-3 minutes until shrimp is cooked through and sauce thickens.
  • Sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve. Enjoy!
