What Is Fried Wonton?
- Fried pork wonton is a type of Chinese dumpling.
- Wonton is usually made into wonton soup, but sometimes it is fried as a side dish or appetizer.
- Thus, it is normally made of pork, green onions, and spices.
Fried Wonton Recipe.
- ground pork
- green onions
- wonton wrappers
- white pepper
- fresh ginger
- soy sauce
- sesame oil
- Shaoxing wine, sherry wine
How To Make Wonton?
- In a large bowl combine the seasonings to the ground meat and stir until the meat is sticky.
- Then add the chopped green onion and mix well.
- Prepare a small bowl with water.
- Sprinkle a little flour on a baking tray. So the wontons won’t stick on the baking tray.
- Dip your finger in water and run it around the edge of HALF the wrapper. Then fold in half to create a triangle. Moisten the two longer tips and bring together. Press together.
- Repeat with remaining wontons.
How To Fry Crispy Wonton?
Pan Fried Wonton.
Fill a pan with 2” of oil and heat to 375°F.
Fry 6-8 of the wontons at a time for 3-5 minutes or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels and repeat the process with the remaining wontons.
Air Fryer Wontons.
Air frying is even easier, and uses less oil!
Brush each prepared wonton with oil or spray with cooking oil.
Add a single layer of wontons and cook for 3-5 minutes at 375°F or just until crisp.
Can You Freeze Wontons Before Frying?
- To freeze before frying, place the stuffed and folded wontons on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, making sure they do not touch each other.
- Cover the baking sheet with plastic wrap and freeze the wontons for several hours before transferring them to a freezer-safe bag or airtight container.
- They can be frozen for several months.
To Pan Fried Wonton.
When you’re ready to cook them, make sure they are fully thawed in the refrigerator before cooking them.
Blot them with a paper towel before frying them to make sure there is no excess water to avoid oil from splattering and burning you.
Frozen Wontons In Air Fryer.
Place the frozen wontons in a single layer in the air fryer basket and spray with cooking spray. Cook at 375 degrees for 14 minutes, turning the wontons or shaking the basket once.
Recipe Substitution and Variations:
Wonton Filling.
Protein: you can substitute with ground beef, ground turkey, or shrimp.
Vegetables: mushrooms, onion, carrots, bok choy, or Nappa cabbage.
Fried Wonton Dipping Sauce.
