This crispy garlic soy tofu is full of garlicky and soy-savory umami. It’s crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. The star of this recipe for crispy garlic tofu is the homemade garlic soy sauce. It’s very simple: all you need is fresh garlic, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, and oil. I like to add some sliced green onion, cilantro, and fresh chili to give the dish more flavor and freshness.
How to make tofu crispy without frying?
This is the secret to making tofu ultra crispy in the pan.
- ADD SALT – After you cut the tofu, sprinkle salt on it, let it sit for 5 minutes and wipe off the water with a kitchen towel. The salt can quickly draw the water from the tofu. The less water, the crispier the tofu.
- Tapioca flour – Coat the tofu with tapioca flour or cornstarch before you pan fry it. You won’t need as much oil for frying and you’ll get an extra crispy tofu.
- Don’t overcrowed – When you fry tofu in a pan, don’t overcrowed, other wise they’ll stick together.

1 tbsp Salt
3 tbsp Tapioca flour or Cornstarch
2 tbsp peanute oil
HOMEMADE GARLIC SOY SAUCE:
1 tbsp Soy sauce
2 tbsp Vegetarian oyster sauce
1 tbsp Sugar
3 tbsp Hot peanute oil

- Cut tofu into bite-sized pieces and sprinkle each piece of tofu with salt.
- Let it sit for 5 minutes.
